Huge crowds of runners, walkers and supporters are on their way to Letterkenny this morning ahead of the annual Northwest 10K.
The charity race route will be the same as 2017, with runners and walkers starting on the Pearse Road heading in the direction of the Tesco Roundabout and out the Port Road.
Donegal County Council have issued an alert to motorists that part of the Pearse Road will be closed off to traffic this Sunday afternoon.
The R250-1 Pearse Road from the junction with Station Roundabout to the junction with Canal Road island / bottom of Rosemount Lane will be closed for the following period: 1.30pm to 3.30pm on Sunday, 6th May 2018.
Alternative Routes: Traffic approaching from Station Roundabout travelling to Justice Walsh Road should divert via Ramelton Road / Main Street. Traffic approaching from Oldtown Road travelling to Station Roundabout should divert via Canal Road, Neil T. Blaney Road and Port Road.
Access from Justice Walsh Road onto Pearse Road will not be facilitated during the hours of this closure. Additional Traffic Management plans and diversions will be in operation throughout Letterkenny to facilitate safe access on the day of the race.
Organisers of the 10K are asking the public to be aware that there will be some traffic disruption along the course for a short period during Sunday’s event. Motorists are asked to cooperate with the Gardai and marshals to ensure that the charity event passes safely for everyone.
