Shane McGinty bagged a gorgeous opener last night as Ballinamallard United defeated relegation rivals Carrick Rangers at Ferney Park.
Ballinamallard’s 2-1 win moves them off the bottom of the table in the Irish League Premier Division with the Mallards now occupying the play-off spot.
McGinty’s goal in the 38th minute set Mallards on their way to a win that brought them out of the basement for the first time this season.
McGinty cracked a superb effort beyond the reach of fellow Donegal man Harry Doherty, the Carrick Rangers goalkeeper.
A second goal from Sean Noble added to the lead, but Darren Henderson’s goal made things a little nervy in the concluding passage.
