Trade union Unite today hailed what it termed a ‘significant victory’ following the Labour Court’s recommendation that social care provider Extern recognise and engage with the union.
Unite had referred the case to the Labour Court following Extern’s persistent refusal to engage collectively with its staff through Unite, despite the fact that a clear majority of workers sought to be represented by the union.
Commenting, Unite Regional Organiser Roy Hassey said: “Today’s Labour Court recommendation vindicated the right of our members to be collectively represented by the union of their choice, Unite.
“We hope that Extern – which is in receipt of significant public funding – complies with the recommendation, and we look forward to engaging with them on behalf of our members”, Roy Hassey concluded.
The social care provider had recognised unions in Derry – but not in Donegal.
