A man has been rescued from a fishing boat which ran aground on rocks off the coast of Donegal.

The man’s boat hit rocks off the coast of Gaoth Dobhair before 11am this morning.

Members of the Arranmore Lifeboat and the Bunbeg coastguard and a rescue 118 helicopter from Sligo were called to the scene west off Gaoth Dobhair at about 11am.

One man, who had been hanging on to the side of his fishing vessel, was rescued from the rocky area and brought to safety.

The fishing vessel was later recovered by members of the coastguard and Arranmore Lifeboat crew.

The man was not injured and did not require medical attention.

A spokesman for Malin Head coastguard said sea conditions were moderate at the time with easterly force 5 winds.
