Irish country star Margo O’Donnell has been forced to alert her fans about hackers who gained control of her Facebook page.
Fans of ‘Girl from Donegal’ said they had received messages from her page in recent weeks that asked for money for an orphanage.
Margo issued a warning to her fans to say: “My account has been hacked, any suspicious messages are definitely not from me.”
The scammers allegedly contacted fans to thank them for their support, before asking for money for an orphanage.
One fan said the hackers were asking for donations in the form of gift cards: “At first I believed them. But not after they said they wanted gift cards. And to scratch the silver line off and then text the code number to them so that they can then use it to buy things for the orphanage! By this time I knew it was a stitch up,” a fan said.
Margo has confirmed, “I would never ask for money for orphanages or any other charity on social media.”
