Brett McGinty faces American middleweight Troy Isley at the Royale Complex in Boston tonight.
An Irish team is facing their USA counterparts over a three-match Elite International Series over the next nine days.
The first leg takes place tonight in Boston and McGinty faces Isley.
McGinty is one of three Irish middleweights who traveled.
McGinty’s nemesis from the recent Irish Elite final, Michael Nevin of Portlaoise, is also on the bill tonight. Nevin faces Nikita Ababiy. Clonard’s Gerard French has also traveled with the Irish side.
McGinty put up a big performance against Nevin in the Irish final, but came out on the wrong end of a split decision.
He gets back to competitive action later tonight against Isley, the World bronze medallist.
19-year old Isley, form Alexandria, Virginia, won bronze at the 2017 World Elites in Hamburg, defeating Seyi Dieudonne of Cameroon and Hosam Abdin from Egypt before bowing out to Uzbekistan’s Israil Madrimov.
Ireland, led by head coach Zaur Antia, have been training in Jim McNally’s Gym in Boston since arriving in America last Thursday and are eager the get the series underway, according to Irish team manager and High-Performance Director Bernard Dunne.
Boxing begins at 7pm local time (midnight Irish time).
