Donegal’s Oakfield Park re-opens for the season this Easter. Reopening on Thursday 29th March, Oakfield Park will host its first family event of the year with an Easter Egg Hunt for all the family.
The Easter event takes place on Saturday, 31st March, Sunday, 1st and Monday, 2nd April from 12pm – 6pm daily.
Families can expect lots of Easter fun, with chocolate treats, face painting and the chance to meet the Oakfield Park Easter bunny. Children can also enjoy exploring the beautiful grounds of Oakfield Park on an Easter Egg Hunt, while the Oakfield Park trains will also be in full steam all weekend.
Meanwhile, Oakfield Park has also launched its Annual Passes for 2018. Pass holders can experience the wonders of Oakfield Park as many times as they like throughout the year.
For 2018, the park has also introduced the Oakfield Park Gold Pass which offers excellent value, giving holders VIP access to the gardens, unlimited train rides, special deals and early booking for events. Gold Pass holders will also be among the first to visit the park’s new hedge maze when it opens. They will also receive personalised gifts throughout the year.
Oakfield Park’s Estate Manager, David Fisher, is looking forward to another busy season: “We’re full steam ahead for our reopening on Thursday 29th March and excitement is building ahead of our Easter Family Fun Weekend.
“Over the last few months we’ve been working hard behind the scenes to ensure we make each visitors’ experience better than ever. We’re getting a great response to our Annual Passes which are a wonderful way to experience Oakfield Park and offer excellent value for money.
“We’re also putting the finishing touches to our new hedge maze, which is a really welcome addition to the park and something kids of all ages will enjoy.”
Located in Raphoe, Oakfield Park is a beautiful landscape of parkland, woodlands, lakes and formal gardens set around a restored 18th century deanery.
The grounds include a host of sites for families, couples and friends to explore, including walled gardens, ponds, lakes, a lakeside Nymphaeum, a hedge maze, heritage trees and sculptures. Children can make a wish at Oakfield Park’s Faerie tree, while navigating their way through extensive walks and trails.
Oakfield Park’s crowning glory is a 4.5km narrow gauge railway with a diesel and steam train operating passenger trips daily. This is a magical way to explore the park’s gardens as the train passes through flower meadows, beautiful woodlands, willow tunnels, oak circles, boardwalks, heritage trees, a wooden causeway and sparkling streams and lakes.
Entry to the Easter Event at Oakfield Park is €8 for adults, €5 for children and under 3’s go free. Aside from the Easter family fun event, other special family days to look out for during the summer season include the Teddy Bear’s Picnic, Steam Sundays, and Garden Tours.
