A young Donegal man who suffered a brain tumour on his 25th birthday has been spurred on by an amazing response to a charity campaign set up to support him.
Thomas McGowan, from Buncrana, fell ill in January on the day of his 25th birthday after suffering headaches over Christmas.
Thomas, who works with A1 Concrete in London, had encountered a very busy year with the birth of his twins with fiancee Aideen McEleney who is from Clonmany.
The twins, Aoife and Daithi, had been born premature and all Thomas and Aideen’s time had been taken up looking after and caring for their children.
After suffering the headaches, tests revealed that Thomas had a brain tumour and he was admitted to the National Hospital for Neurology in January.
Having now had his surgery, Monday sees Thomas begin an eight-week course of intensive chemotherapy and radiography.
Without being able to work, the young family face an uphill struggle to make ends meet.
Now friends and family have come together to support their loved ones and have started a Go Fund Me page which has had an amazing response.
After just two days, almost €16,000 has been raised to help Thomas, Aideen and the twins get through this most difficult period of their lives together.
