Letterkenny Institute of Technology hosted a day of dynamic events on Wednesday 7th March as part of the 2018 DICE.
The open event showed secondary school pupils from around the north west what Design, Innovation, Creativity and Enterprise could achieve when the elements combine.
The conference began with a colourful fashion show of high-end creations by students of the BA in Fashion with Promotion – Donegal’s first graduates from the ground-breaking course.
Works by nine up-and-coming designers were showcased to give a flavour of the degree, with design inspirations ranging from architecture, places, eras and movements.
Guest speaker Aileen Faller gave an in-depth talk about her work as a Costume Designer and Interpreter. The Derry native has worked on some of the world’s biggest TV series in modern times, including Peaky Blinders, Game of Thrones, Derry Girls, Call the Midwife, and films including The Huntsman: Winter’s War. Aileen talked about the beginnings of her career, the hard work that is required to get a foot in the door, and the professionalism that she believes is necessary to further her work in the entertainment industry.
Designers and creative thinkers spoke throughout the day to share their work and demonstrate the value they bring to business and society. Every design industry was explored over three sessions; from animation, fashion, film and broadcast, graphic and interaction design to innovation and design thinking.
With inspirational showcases, innovative ideas and insider advice, this DICE day was another success for the Design and Creative Media Department at LYIT.
