Met Eireann have updated the national weather warnings in place across Ireland to reduce the severity of alerts in Donegal and nearby counties.
Today’s Status Orange alert has been changed to Status Yellow, which calls for caution due to icy conditions.
Further scattered snow showers are in place for the duration of the alert – from Friday at 4pm to Saturday at 9am.
More heavy snow is forecast for the counties worst affected by Storm Emma – Dublin, Kildare, Wexford, Wicklow and Meath. These counties remain at Status Red until Saturday morning.
The weather forecast for Donegal tonight shows more bitterly cold conditions. Lowest temperatures will be -2 degrees, which will have a strong windchill when combined with gusty conditions in northern coastal areas.
Saturday looks set to be another cold day, with temperatures reaching no higher than 3 degrees. There will be a risk of snowfall and sleet in the region.
