Sinn Féin Senator Pádraig Mac Lochlainn has requested a meeting with senior officials from Irish Water over concerns about projects in Donegal.
It follows the news of the appointment of administrators to four of its companies by Lagan Construction, who last April, won the contract for works amounting to €3.7 million of the overall €5.8 million Inishowen Regional Water Supply project.
The contract won by Lagan Construction, includes the transfer of 1,500m3/day from the Eddie Fullerton Dam into East Inishowen and will necessitate the construction of a pumping station within the existing Eddie Fullerton Dam site, a 6.95km rising main to a new reservoir at Crockaveeny and 4.5km of distribution main.
Senator Mac Lochlainn said “It is particularly important to the community in Greencastle in that it will provide a secure and safe supply of water to them following their real concerns about the high levels of THMs in their water supply”.
He continued “This essential project has already faced delays and while Irish Water have given public assurances following the placing into administration of the four companies at Lagan Construction, it is vital that senior officials with Irish Water meet with me and other local public representatives as soon as possible to outline how they intend to ensure that these works are carried out by the end of this year, as promised.
“I understand that Lagan Water, who won this major contract, is one of the companies that have gone into administration, therefore Irish Water must appreciate the concerns of the community in North East Inishowen and the local public representatives”.
