Geraldine McLaughlin returned to the Donegal ladies side today as they recorded a fine away win over Monaghan.
Monaghan 1-4 Donegal 1-7
In a game that was a repeat of last year’s Ulster final – and a prelude to this year’s Ulster semi-final meeting – Donegal had the edge for a second win on the trot.
After last weekend’s big win over Westmeath, this was a tighter affair.
Yvonne Bonner, though, opened up in style for Donegal with a goal after just six minutes.
Bonner was almost off the mark in the first 30 seconds, but was denied by the crossbar.
Donegal led 1-4 to 0-2 at the break.
Katy Herron added to the Donegal tally but when Aisling McAnespie netted for Monaghan it was game on.
The woodwork denied Bonner again, this time from a penalty, but following McLaughlin’s introduction Donegal saw it out for the win.
