New figures released by the Central Statistics Office show that Donegal is the least well-off county in Ireland.
The ‘County Incomes’ report documents the average county disposable incomes and revealed that people living in Donegal, on average, have the least amount of disposable income in Ireland.
Across Ireland the average person accumulated €20,334 in disposable income excluding tax in 2015, but Donegal fell well below this national average with an average of €15,705 at their disposal in the same year.
The Donegal statistics stood in stark contrast to Dublin’s figures, with a substantial €7,593 gap between the average disposable incomes of people living in each county in 2015.
Those living in the Dublin region had the highest average disposable income figure per person in the same period, with €23,298 at their disposal. This excludes necessities such as rental costs or mortgage repayments.
The statistics followed a similar trend in 2016, when Donegal was once again at the bottom of the pack.
The average disposable income figure for Donegal did rise to €16,099 yet still fell behind the 2016 national average by €4,840.
Dublin was once again the most prosperous region, with €24,061 in disposable income per person on average in 2016.
