Pensioners in a Letterkenny housing estate have become ‘prisoners’ due to the state of the drainage in the area, it has been claimed.
Councillor Gerry McMonagle called on Donegal County Council to carry out drainage works at Muckish Avenue in the Glencar area of Letterkenny.
“Water is regularly running off the green onto the footpath in front of the houses and is proving a health and safety risk for the senior citizens living there,” Councillor McMonagle said.
“This has come to light very prominently in the last couple of weeks with the cold spell.
“Pensioners were prisoners and they didn’t want to come out of their houses for fear of falling.”
Upgrade works are to be carried out next month.
