Today’s raw weather is setting the scene for a freezing night of frequent snow showers and icy conditions.
Forecasters have warned that an extremely cold night is in store, with lows of -3 and -4 degrees and minimums of -6 in places.
Snow accumulations of up to 3am are predicted, with the north west included in the worst affected areas. Road users are advised to take extreme care throughout the night and into Wednesday morning. Met Eireann have a Status Yellow Snow-Ice and Low Temperature warning in place for every county in Ireland tonight.
Donegal County Council will be gritting all major routes this evening and throughout the night. However, motorists are advised to assume that no road is ice free. With widespread sharp frost, there will be slippery roads and paths due to ice on untreated surfaces. Gritters will be out again from 6am on Wednesday morning.
Wednesday will start cold and turn milder by the afternoon. Rain is due to set in tomorrow with average temperatures of 3-6 degrees.
