81 participants took place in yesterday’s Letterkenny parkrun. On the eve of the parkrun’s second anniversary, the event continues to grow in numbers.
The first event took place on the the 6th of February 2016. Between the first event and the 28th of January 2017, a massive 2,449 people have taken part in the free weekly 5k.
Committee member Brendan Delap tells Donegal Daily that between April 2017 and January 2018, 3,310 people have taken part, an increase of 35%!
“Obviously without the participants and the band of different volunteers who give of their time on a weekly basis none of this would be possible so a big thanks to all who contribute to this community focused event,” Brendan says.
“As next week’s 5k will correspond with Letterkenny parkrun’s second anniversary, we would ask people to register in advance if they intend on taking part as this makes life a lot easier for the parkrun volunteers on the day.
“Please come along a little earlier next Saturday as a big crowd is expected.”
At yesterday’s event, Paul Cullen was the first to cross the finish line, followed closely by Paul Toner and Aaron Nepgen.
