Lough Swilly RNLI volunteer battled against extremely high waves and severe winds to assist a fishing vessel which got into difficulty last Thursday.
A 50ft vessel made the call for help after it broke down east of Fanad Lighthouse on 18th January. The fishing vessel had lost power and, despite dropping an anchor, was still drifting into danger.
The crew endured a night of severe stormy conditions with ‘four metre seas and howling winds’ during the call out.
The RNLI said the volunteers successfully worked as a team in challenging conditions to get a tow attached and then endured a three hour tow to a point of safety.
