Finn Harps have signed a young Donegal centre-back on loan from Derry City.
Sam Todd, a 19-year-old defender from Carndonagh, will look to cut his teeth at Harps after making the loan switch to Finn Park.
The move has not been announced by Harps, but Derry’s Under-19 manager John Quigg (pictured above) confirmed it in an interview with the Derry Journal’s Kevin McLaughlin.
“There are three or four players in training with the first team during pre-season,” Quigg said. “Delap, Tweed, Farren and McBride are all in training with the first team, while Sam Todd, who has joined Finn Harps on loan, but is still training with the first team.
“If he does well up there then that can be good for the Derry City.
“They are the four or five players who will be pushing for a place in and around the first team this season.”
Quigg was speaking about Kenny Shiels’ policy of promoting young players to his first team squad.
And there is a strong Donegal link there with Todd, Evan Tweed, Cathal Farren, Sean McBride, Shane McNamee, Adrian Delap and Connor Gormley all among those aiming to make a breakthrough in the Candystripes.
Quigg said; “To be fair to Kenny, he has no problem throwing young players into the team and a lot of those boys made their debuts last season.”
