Both the President Michael D Higgins and Taoiseach Leo Varadkar will be represented at the funeral of former Donegal TD Paddy Harte in Raphoe today.
Hundreds of people are expected to attend the funeral of the political giant who passed away on Monday last at Lifford Hospital.
Aged 86, Mr Harte, OBE, had given most of his life to politics and his local community as well as to his loving family.
In recent days since his passing, hundreds of people have passed through the family’s well-known home on the Diamond in the heart of Raphoe and recalled the life and times of the man who did so much for so many.
Others understood to be attending today’s funeral include Ministers Joe McHugh and Charlie Flanagan as well as political representatives from Northern Ireland with whom Mr Harte dedicated so much time trying to find a peace with our neighbours.
His funeral mass takes place today at 12 noon in St. Eunan’s Church in Raphoe with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
To his loving wife Rosaleen, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as family and friends, may we express our deep sympathy at this time.
