Martin Carney says that Donegal’s Gaelic football success of late has been ‘remarkable’.
Ballyshannon native Carney won two Ulster titles with Donegal in the 1970s before moving to Mayo, with whom he won four Connacht titles.
Carney launched the 2017 Donegal Sports Star Awards yesterday evening in the Mount Errigal Hotel, 40 years on from when he was the GAA Award winner at the 1977 awards.
Carney, best known now for his work as a pundit on RTÉ, has retained a great interest in Donegal.
“What Donegal football has done is just remarkable,” Carney told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.
“They’d never reached a final until 1963. To think we have won two All-Irelands since then is just incredible.”
