The tragic seamen who perished when the HMS Racoon sunk off Malin Head 100 years ago will be remembered with a touching centenary commemoration organised by Rathmullan History Society.
Seventeen of the men were laid to rest at St. Columb’s Church of Ireland graveyard in Rathmullan.
Rev. Harry Gilmore will lead a prayer, with children from St. Joseph’s National School laying a flower for each individual seaman on the grave.
The commemoration will take place on Tuesday the 9th of January at 1pm.
A spokesperson for Rthmullan History Society says:”We welcome everybody who would like to pay tribute to these unfortunate seamen who lost their lives so tragically, far from home on a freezing January morning one hundred years ago.”
