A quad injury picked up in the second half of last night’s win over Queen’s is set to rule Donegal’s Cian Mulligan out for a couple of weeks.
Mulligan, who came on as a replacement for Niall O’Donnell seven minutes into the second half, scored two points in the 2-15 to 0-6 rout at Sean MacCumhaill Park.
The Gaoth Dobhair man was lively after his introduction and came close to a third Donegal goal in the closing stages, but a blistering effort cannoned off the post.
In that move, Mulligan sustained the injury that has rendered him a doubt for the remainder of the McKenna Cup.
“He picked up a quad injury that will rule him out for a number of weeks,” Donegal manager Declan Bonner said.
“Cian is a brilliant option. He finds those pockets and he has brilliant pace.”
Mulligan’s Gaoth Dobhair clubmate Odhrán Mac Niallais, back in the county set-up after a year away, had been named to start last night, but saw his berth taken by Michael Langan, who scored 1-6.
However, Bonner says Mac Niallais could feature on Sunday against Monaghan in Clones.
He said: “We had hoped that he’d be fit to play. Hopefully he may play some part on Sunday.”
