Four of the six fire tenders that were deployed to flooding incidents have been returned to base.
Storm Eleanor swept in this evening and, while there was at least one house in Burnfoot flooded and several roads across the county left in an impassable state, Donegal, for now, appears to have escaped the worst of the storm.
Inishowen was again badly hit.
The Donegal Fire Service sent out six crews to incidents tonight. Two are still attending to incidents in Carndonagh and Burnfoot, but the other four are back at base again, Government Chief Whip TD Joe McHugh has said.
There are still 40 homes in the Buncrana area without power and another 40 in the Kilcar area, with restoration to the latter due by 2am.
“I want to pay tribute to all the Fire crews and ESB crews for their work this evening here in the County,” Minister McHugh said.
“However there remain seriously difficult driving conditions across Donegal with localised flooding on many roads – so if you have to be out, please drive carefully and please slow down. There will be high tides again in the morning so stay away from piers etc.”
