A number of dolphin carcasses have been washed up at different locations on Donegal’s coastline in recent days.
Local wildlife ranger Emmett Johnston and local woman Tara Hegarty reported a dolphin carcass washed up on Lagg Beach on Wednesday.
This has now been identified as a Striped Dolphin.
According to the Inishowen Whales and Dolphin Group, this animal is not commonly recorded here as they are mostly sighted offshore.
They say it is unclear how the animal died while a dead seal was also found on the same beach yesterday (Thurs).
A spokesperson for the IWDG said “If you do come across a carcass like this please report it as the information is a valuable scientific record. You can post to us here, contact your local ranger or contact the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group (IWDG.ie).”
In another incident, another dolphin was found washed up on a beach in Culdaff and spotted by locals out walking on St Stephen’s Day.
There has also been another unconfirmed report of a dolphin being washed up at Portnoo.
