In his first Christmas message to the people of Ireland, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar says that the government hope to house 100 families each working day in 2018.
The Taoiseach said: “I’m conscious that not everyone will have the Christmas they might wish for, and I’m thinking particularly of people who are homeless this year. We’re working really hard to ensure that everyone who needs our help has shelter and somewhere safe and warm to spend the night.
President Michael D. Higgins also highlighted the plight of the homeless in his Christmas and New Year message, saying that “the burden of homelessness will overshadow the festive season for those deprived of a secure and permanent shelter.”
Varadkar concluded the video by saying: “Nollaig Shona agus Athbhliain faoi mhaise daoibh!”
