There will be much Christmas joy on Tory Island this weekend as three babies are Christened on the one day.
Tory Island is hosting its first ever triple Baptism tomorrow, bringing many families together for a unique celebration.
The Irish Daily Mail reports that baby boys will be welcomed to the island parish just before the holidays, while the locals will be welcoming another magical visitor in the evening.
King of Tory Patsy Dan Rodgers said that the new arrivals have given the islanders great hope that the community can continue to thrive in the future.
The births are giving the population a much-needed boost, while bringing excitement and promise to local families. The island’s population has declined in recent years from 169 in 1996 to 142 in 2006, when the last CSO stats were recorded.
The christenings have also safeguarded the position of parish priest Fr. Kieran Creagh on the island over Christmas.
There will be even more celebrations and special moments on Tory this Saturday as Santa Claus will be making his annual pre-Christmas visit. There is much anticipation for this event, as he will be touching down by helicopter while the sleigh is being prepped for Christmas Eve.
Patsy Dan told the paper that all is well and merry this Christmas: “We have the christenings, we have our priest back and the island has never had as many Christmas lights up.”
