TEN Donegal angling organisations are to share in a €336,442 windfall from the Government, Minister Joe McHugh has announced.
The angling development and conservation initiatives in Donegal are part of the National Strategy for Angling Development and Salmon Conservation initiative.
The 2017 Funding Call was first announced in August 2017 with local groups and individuals including local development associations, tidy towns, angling clubs, local authorities and others invited to apply for funding.
Said Minister McHugh: “Groups across the county are being recognised for the work they have done and are being funded for their ongoing work.
“They include angling organisations in Creeslough, Gweebarra, Buncrana, the Rosses, Lough, Crolly, Ray, Loughanure, Culdfaff and Dunfanaghy.
“All the projects are aimed at ensuring that Donegal’s fish stocks and angling infrastructure are protected and enhanced with a view to ensuring a sustainable habitat and delivering the economic, health and recreational benefits they offer to communities here in the county.
“I want to congratulate Minister Sean Kyne who was able to quadruple the national budget for this from €500,000 last year to more than €2M nationally this year.”
Cllr Jimmy Kavanagh said: “This is great news for local angling clubs today. These voluntary organisations do a huge amount of work on the conservation and enhancement of our waterways which benefits both the communities and tourism for Donegal.”
