A new exhibition by Letterkenny artist Fiona Higgins casts a new light on the magnificent scenery of Co Donegal.
In her series of paintings, the Batik artist evokes childhood memories, romantic moments, holidays and simple pleasures of days out set against the backdrop of some of the county’s most beautiful landmarks.
Describing her work, Fiona says: “I specialize in batik painting on silk. I prefer to use silk as a medium since the wax flows straight through the fabric when painted on with a brush; this makes it possible to include fine details.
“ I also use a brush to paint on the dyes, which allows me to achieve a wider variety of colours and blended tones compared to the traditional batik technique of dip-dying.”
The new exhibition of landscapes and seascapes, “Everlasting Memories of Donegal” features images of Mount Errigal, Marble Hill Strand, Carrickfinn, Fanad Lighthouse, Gartan and Glenveagh.
The exhibition runs at Cafe Davitt, Spencer House, High Road, Letterkenny, until December 15th.
