MILFORD UNITED RES. 1 V 4 GLENCAR CELTIC. The league leaders dominated the opening half-hour of this game but in was the 31th minute before they finally made an overdue breakthrough. Lee Mc Monagle hit the post with a cracking shot in the 9th minute and Marty Brogan was unlucky when his excellent free-kick strike from 25 yards rattled the home crossbar in the 16th minute. On the Half-hour Garvan Grieve’s shot was well saved by Anthony Hegarty but a minute later the home keeper was helpless as Shane Hilley drilled a low shot into the far corner after Grieve’s fine pass had put him through. Glencar continued to dominate and on the stroke of half-time added a second goal. A good build-up down the left put Patrick Collins in behind the defense and his super low cross left Lee Mc Monagle with a tap in from six yards and Glencar Celtic in control without really producing their best form. Mc Monagle again went close in 53rd minute while the home side showed more intent going forward without really troubling Glencar keeper Dom Friel. Patrick Collins was denied by a tight offside call after a super build-up involving Mc Monagle and Kevin Rafferty. Rafferty should have done with a free header at the far post. Just when it was beginning to look like Glencar would see it through for the win despite not been anywhere nears their best Milford made the last quarter interesting when Ryan Campbell took advantage of some slack defending to slot home to make it 1-2. However Glencar responded well and scored twice in the latter stages. Keeper Hegarty failed to hold a cross from the left and Marty Brogan pounced to hammer low to the corner in the 84th minute and then sub Kieran Doherty was given too much time and space to crack a beauty past Hegarty to the top corner from 20 yards to make ir 1-4 and ensure Glencar will retain top spot in the table.
