Donegal County Council has had all of their gritters out since 6:30 this morning.
A spokesperson asks that motorists take extra care while driving in these wintry conditions and to assume that no road is ice-free.
Met Éireann forecasts that today will be cold and bright, with some sunshine and occasional showers. They say that sleet and snow showers are expected on high ground, with highest temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees. Winds will be mostly moderate north-westerly and gusty near coasts.
It will freeze again tonight, with temperatures expected to plummet to minus 2, with frost forming on untreated surfaces. Sleet and snow showers are also expected.
Tomorrow will be much the same as today, with sunny spells and occasional showers sweeping the country. There will be more sleet and snow showers, with highest temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees.
