Icy conditions this morning have rendered roads across Donegal perilous.
Several instances of cars leaving the road have been reported this morning in Fintown, Inishowen, and Ballybofey. No injuries have been reported from these incidents.
A yellow weather warning for snow and ice is currently in place by Met Éireann, and is valid until tomorrow morning.
It is forecast that the frosty conditions will remain throughout the day, with highs of 3 to 6 degrees. Wintry showers of rain, hail, sleet and snow are expected, as well as blustery conditions around coastal areas.
It is expected to freeze again tonight with lowest temperatures between plus 1 to minus 1 degrees, and frost will settle in spite of the wind.
Gardaí are asking motorists to slow down as temperatures dip.
“Lower temperatures will mean roads may be icy. It takes longer to stop a vehicle in snow or on icy roads so Slow Down, allow extra distance between you and the vehicle in front,” a Garda spokesperson says.
Donegal County Council gritters have been out since 6 am on major routes. The Council asks that motorists “assume that no road is ice-free.”
