Gaeltacht Minister Joe McHugh has announced the authorisation of €16,500 to help three organisations in County Donegal.

The money is being awarded to help important Gaeltacht groups in Falcarragh, Ranafast and Gaoth Dobhair.

The funding breakdown is as follows:

  • €5,840 for Ranafast band
  • €8,250 for Gaoth Dobhair Celtic FC
  • €2,430 for Falcarragh walk

Minister McHugh said today: “Under the financial assistance, Cumann Ceiltigh Ghaoth Dobhair will receive €8,250 towards a new lawnmower for Gaoth Dobhair Celtic FC which will benefit both the club and the local community.

“I have also authorised a payment of €5,840 to Banna Ceoil Druma Mór in Rann na Feirste which will assist the band with the purchase of musical equipment and uniforms. The group has been in existence for more than 40 years and are an integral part of that Irish language community.

“In Falcarragh the funding will help with surface works and improvements to the walkway on the Ballyconnell estate which is a fantastic local amenity and where the now famous Park Run is located.

“In all three areas, the local groups contribute significantly to the language, culture and heritage of their communities and I am delighted I have been able to assist them. All three groups have also provided their own funding towards these projects.”

Minister McHugh paid tribute to all those involved in the community organisations.
