Three Donegal projects have been shortlisted for this year’s Chambers Ireland Excellence in Local Government Awards!
The winners will be announced at the annual awards ceremony at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Dublin tomorrow evening.
The projects which have been shortlisted for an award are:
· Wainfest Arts and Book Festival for Children under the Best Library Service category,
· Sea Sessions Surf and Music Festival under Festival of the Year category, and
· County Donegal in 1916 History and Education Pack under the Commemorations and Centenaries category.
Donegal County Council is one of 23 local authorities across the country whose work has been shortlisted for an award and according to Ian Talbot, Chief Executive of Chambers Ireland “the shortlist for the 2017 Awards reflects the best practice work being undertaken by local authorities across Ireland and highlights the commitment shown to improving the area in which they operate”.
The 14th annual Chambers Ireland Excellence in Local Government Awards are sponsored by Vodafone Ireland and are held in conjunction with the Department of Housing, Planning, Community & Local Government and showcases and celebrates the best of Local Government in Ireland.
Donegal in 1916 History and Heritage Pack
Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council Cllr. Gerry McMonagle is delighted to have three projects from Donegal shortlisted and believes that this is a great way to recognise and celebrate the outstanding work done by the Council working closely with communities and key stakeholders around the county.
“It is a great achievement to have been shortlisted for an award and this in itself is an important accolade,” he said.

“The three projects that have been shortlisted are excellent examples of the Councils dedication in terms of our reputation as a leader in culture, cultural services and tourism development at local authority level and to our commitment to collaborative partnership working to successfully deliver on our shared goals for the county.”
Last year Donegal County Council won the Joint Local Authority Initiative Award for its work with Derry City and Strabane District Council on the Strategic Model for Regional Development and Growth in the North West of Ireland.
