Finn Harps 1. V 2. Athlone Town Harps found themselves 0-2 at half-time despite having the better of things in the opening half. Luke Rudden went close on several occasions and Athlone had a series of let-offs as Harps forced a succession of corners, Charlie White saw a double effort somehow blocked and then saved to deny him. Against the run of play the visitors took the lead when Jack Reynolds found Dylan Gavin and the striker drill a super goal into the top corner in the 30th minute. Luke Rudden was played through by Adam Mc Cafferty but a last ditch tackle by Jack Keenan denied him with Harps claiming a free but Referee Benny Mc Daid not interested. Just before half-time the visitors struck a vital blow when winger Adam Lennon pounced on a poor pass in defence and drilled a low shot past keeper Mc Laughlin to make it 0-2 at the break , somewhat against the run of play but leaving Harps with a mountain to climb. They got the perfect start to the second-half when Stephen Black put his brother Conor through and he beat keeper 0 Toole to make it 1-2 in the 42nd minute and game on again. Once again Harps were the better team for long periods of the half and created but failed to take a number of good chances. Athlone defended well and were dangerous on the break without creating any clear-cut openings. Kevin Mc Hugh’s young ream kept going right to the end without reward and will reflect on those early missed opportunities and those goals in the final ten minutes of the first-half as the reasons for missing out on a National Final appearance.
