Matthew McCole’s attentions turn now to the Irish Senior Championships after bowing out of the Ulster Elites last night in Belfast.
McCole went down on a unanimous decision against highly-touted Belfast puncher Sean McComb at the Dockers club.
This was McComb’s first time at the venue since losing a Commonwealth Games box-off three years ago, but the Holy Trinity light-welter was too hot to handle for Dungloe ABC’s McCole.
The Dungloe southpaw was no match for the slick, sharp McComb, who advances to a final meeting against Caoimhin Ferguson or Bernaldo Marime.
For McCole, the turnaround is short as he heads for Dublin this weekend for the start of the Irish Seniors.
On Friday night in Belfast, St Johnston’s Brett McGinty is in semi-final action at the Ulster Elites. The Oakleaf ABC welter is slated to meet Nathan Watson with a place in Friday-week’s final, at the Ulster Hall, up for grabs.
