Donegal business leaders will get their hands dirty in a charity car wash to help fund a life-changing operation for local girl Mikaela Breen.
Donegal Business Network will host the ‘Bosses Wash for Cash’ event in Letterkenny on Saturday, November 18 to raise money for specialist treatment abroad for the seven-year old Convoy schoolgirl who has Spina Bifida.
The DBN team will be joined by a host of business leaders and Donegal International Rally Champion, Manus Kelly, of Tailored Facility Solutions, from 9am to 4pm at the TFS centre (opposite the Mount Errigal Hotel, Letterkenny) on Saturday, November 18.
Mikaela was born with a Spina Bifida condition which affects her bladder and bowel functions (neurogenic bladder and bowel). She is now racing against time to avoid further debilitation by undergoing specialist surgery abroad at a cost of up to €70,000. Her parents Sinead and Chris have set up a Go Fund Me campaign called ‘Mobilize for Mikaela’ to help raise some of the money needed.
Mum Sinead explains: “Mikaela is always smiling and is the ultimate glass half full girl, but the damage being done every day before she gets surgery is irreparable. That’s why she needs to have the procedure as soon as possible. We are very grateful to the members of Donegal Business Network for organising this great charity event for Mikaela and to all of those helping to fundraise in other ways.”
DBN Director Darren Donaghy has called on the public to support the ‘Bosses Wash for Cash’ and appealed to businesses to dig deep for the ongoing ‘Mobilize for Mikaela’ Go Fund Me campaign.
“The ‘Bosses Wash for Cash’ gives people a novel chance to have their cars washed by local business owners including accountants, solicitors, architects, builders, retailers, consultants and many more.
“We’ve put the sponges in the hands of well-known local business people to make this a fun, novelty attraction. But it means so much more for Mikaela and we want to empty the wash buckets of water and fill them with cash to help this very worthy cause.”
He adds: “We’re also asking fellow businesses in the North West to give generously at the ‘Mobilize for Mikaela’ Go Fund Me page. If every business gives a little, it will help transform this wonderful little girl’s life.”
A minimum donation of €6 per car wash is to be made on the day.
Donations can be made at Go Fund Me. The page is called Mobilize for Mikaela and the link is www.gofundme.com/4jk7rbk
