Naomh Conaill 4-12 v 2-11 Glenfin. Four goals by Paul Mc Guinness, two in each half saw Noamh Conall through to the Under 21A final against holders Gweedore. After a somewhat slow start the Glenties lads found their feet to lead by 2-05 to 1-05 at half-time and a blistering start to the second-half which produced 2-02 inside seven minutes ended this game as a contest. That left it at 4-07 to 1-06 in the 37th minute but credit to the young Glenfin team which battled right to the end and in fact got the last three scores including a second goal. Glenfin raced to an early three point lead with frees by Conor Mc Bride and Stephen Carr and one from play by Jason Morrow inside six minutes. It was 12 minutes in before Ethan O Donnell opened Naomh Conaill’s account with a free, followed quickly by a Charles Mc Guinness free and an O’Donnell point from play to level it up at 0-03 apiece after 16 minutes. The game’s first goal arrived a minute later, Tony Bryne burst forward from midfield before lying the ball off to Paul Mc Guinness who hammered to the far corner of the net giving keeper Liam O Meara no chance. Charles Mc Guinness hit his second point to make it 1-04 without reply but fine scores from play by both Matthew Mc Ginley and Karl Mc Glynn brought Glenfin back into the game at 1-04 to 0-05 in the 26th minute. The first-half ended with a flurry of scores, J D Boyle burst through and found Shane Mc Devitt who unselfishly fed Paul Mc Guinness to drill home his second goal, but almost immediately Glenfin replied when Karl Mc Glynn exchanged passes with Conor Mc Bride below blasting a super drive to the top corner of the Naomh Conaill net. Odhran Doherty pointed for the Glenties lads in the 33rd minute to leave it 2-05 to 1-05 in their favour at the break. Paul Mc Guinness and Stephen Carr exchanged points early in the second-half , Charles Mc Guinness added his third of the game to make it 2-07 to 1-06 and then Paul Mc Guinness struck twice in two minutes with goals, finishing off a good move with the first and then slotting home a penalty after a foul on Danny Gallagher and suddenly it was 4-07 to 1-06 in Naomh Conaill’s favour. Glenfin responded well with three points in a row, two frees from Mc Bride and Carr from play, but Naomh Conaill then added five points in a row, Odhran Doherty got two, Paul Mc Guinness, Caolan Mc Monagle and J D Boyle one apiece to make it 4-12 to 1-09. Glenfin kept going and Matthew Mc Ginley and Eoin Donnellan added points and with the last kick of the game Mc Ginley slotted the ball to the net to leave the final score 4-12 to 2-11 and a final spot for Naomh Conaill.
