There are just six students attending the offshore Coláiste Phobail Cholmcille on Toraigh – but there is no shortage of achievements among the school community.
Students from the Donegal ETB school have won an impressive mix of awards in recent months, showing their top-class language skills and creativity in various competitions.
In July three of students won prizes in creative writing competitions run by Aonach Tailteann, a Gaeltacht competition run between Donegal and Conamara.
Aimee Nic Láifreartaigh won first in the short story under 16; William O Ruanaidh came second and Pádraig Ó Dubhgáin came third in the same competition. William also came first in the Poetry competition under 16 with his poem ‘An Fharraige’

Aimee Nic Láifeartaigh from Tory won first prize in the Irish language section of a National Transkation Comp organised by ITIA.
In September, Aimee Nic Láifreartaigh won first place in a National Translation Competition for Secondary Schools run by ITIA (Irish translators and Interpreters Association). Aimee translated a passage from Irish into English and came first in the Irish translation section, although she was only in first year at the time she did the translation. This was a standout achievement as all other sections were won by Transition or Senior Cycle students.

William Ó Ruanaidh and Padraig ó Dubhgáin
Last week William Ó Ruanaidh came first in the Poetry (under 16) competition run as part of An tOireachtas, and Pádraig Ó Dubhgáin came second in the short story competition (under 16).
Príomhoide Máire Clár Nic Mhathúna said these were all ‘great achievements’ for the students of Coláiste Phobail Cholmcille.
