MILFORD PROGRESSED TO the semi-finals of the Under-21B Football Championship following their eight-point win over Termon today at O’Donnell Park.
Milford 2-16
Termon 2-8
The team from Moyle View Park did the damage early and then kept Termon at arm’s length for the remainder of the contest.
Milford dominated the first half and moved into an 11-point lead at one stage, only for Termon two score two goals before the break and on the face of it, manager Hugh Harkin might’ve been forgiven for thinking it could’ve been worse than trailing 2-9 to 2-2.
However, Milford managed to keep things ticking over as both sides finished with 14 men as Darragh Black of Milford and Caolan McDaid were sent off for an off-the-ball incident, with McDaid picking up second yellow card and Black a straight red.
Following a pass from Martin Doyle, Ronan Docherty scored the opening goal on nine minutes when his shot was too hot to handle for Termon goalkeeper Shane McElwaine.
That made the score 1-2 to 0-1 with Kane Barrett, Martin Doyle and Connor Gormley finding their range from placed balls, Milford were in control.
A second goal duly arrived on 28 minutes when Ryan McMahon netted following a break from the back by Gavin Grier and Milford, it seemed, would have a very sturdy interval cushion as they were 2-7 to 0-2 ahead.
Termon, though, rallied towards the end of the half and Eoin Doherty gave the side from the Burn Road something of a lifeline when he slapped in from close range as Brian Alcorn played in a long ball.
Then, in first half injury time, Termon’s McDaid got in on Gavin McFadden in the Milford goal and a deft finish brought a second goal. At the break Milford were seven points in front.
The aforementioned trio of Barrett, Doyle and Gormley continued to pop over points in the second half, as Termon were best served by Enda McCormick. Milford essentially played it out and now are in the semi-final looking to add to their Minor B title from 2015.
