The Glenswilly man captained Ireland in the previous series, in 2013, when they won the Cormac McAnallen Cup after a 173-72 aggregate win.
Murphy featured in 2010 when Australia defeated Ireland 102-92 on aggregate and in 2011 he was part of the traveling Ireland squad that won 130-65 following tests in Melbourne and Queensland.
Mayo’s Aidan O’Shea is the Ireland captain this year with Conor McManus of Monaghan the vice captain.
