Donegal Gardaí have seized a car after it was discovered that the driver did not have motor insurance.
A court date will now be scheduled for the driver.
Gardaí tweeted: “‘Little Peugeot’ hitching a lift to the compound! all because his driver didn’t have insurance. Prosecution to follow.”
Driving without insurance is a serious offence, leading to fines, penalty points, and the possibility of disqualification.
The driver of ‘Little Peugeot’ could now face a fine of up to €5,000, five penalty points, or a prison term not exceeding six months.
The judge may also decide to disqualify the driver instead of incurring penalty points. If this decision is reached, the driver could be disqualified for two years or more (if it is their first offence), and four years or more if it is a second offence committed within three years of the first.
