It’s good enough that they respond to emergencies and put their lives on the line for the Donegal public each and every day.
But firefighters from across the county went one further when they raised a staggering €34,827 for the Donegal Hospice.
The money was raised by Donegal Firefighters Association during the annual car wash that occurs every year on the August bank holiday.
The handover of the cheque happened on the same night as fellow colleague Eunan Doherty from Carndonagh station retired early from the fire service.
A further €10,000 was handed over to the Northwest Hospice coming from the same collection.
The collection day started well over 10 years ago after members of the service sadly had to make use of the hospice.
To date, almost a staggering €750,000 has been raised by the big-hearted firefighters.
