Figures released by the Central Statistics Office have today revealed that the rate of unemployment has hit 6%, a figure which has not been seen since before the recession.
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for October 2017 was 6.0%, down from 6.1% in September 2017 and down from 7.2% in October 2016.
This has been the lowest rate of unemployment in Ireland since June 2008. The rate of unemployment has previously been as high as 15.2% in January 2012.
131,300 people were employed during October 2017, down from 133,100 when compared to September.
Looking back at this time last year, that’s a decrease of 26,800 when compared to October 2016.
Of the 82,000 men that were unemployed in September 2017, 1,700 have come into employment. The amount of women unemployed in October was 51,000 , a decrease of 100 when compared to September.
