Ulster Senior League champions Cockhill Celtic have been rocked with another cruciate injury.
Midfielder Derek ‘Shivey’ Doherty sustained the injury during Cockhill’s 10-0 win over Swilly Rovers in the FAI Intermediate Cup.
Doherty underwent a scan on the injury and the worst fears were confirmed – he had ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).
Doherty has been a central player during Cockhill’s reign of dominance in the USL, with five League and League Cup doubles won in the last five seasons.
Cockhill have only just welcomed back Malachy McDermott from a cruciate injury sustained during the summer of 2016 while playing Gaelic football with Moville.
