A woman who failed to give information to gardai and shouted expletives was fined in a Letterkenny court this week.
Bridget O’Donnell, of 7 Glentain Manor, Letterkenny, was in a Nissan Micra observed travelling at high speed which was stopped by gardai on March 17th, 2016 outside Carrigart.
Letterkenny District Court heard that Garda Sinead McHale and Garda Mc Cann saw a male driving the car, but Ms O’Donnell was found in the driver seat with the door open when the car was stopped and approached by Gardai.
Ms O’Donnell identified herself as the owner of the car. Three males were in the back seat.
Gardai took the keys from Ms O’Donnell who was said to be in an extremely intoxicated state.
She uttered a number of expletives and called Garda McHale a “blonde peroxide bitch”.
Solicitor Donough Cleary said Ms O’Donnell, who had no previous convictions, had driven a number of people to a local bar on the night in question.
The night did not proceed as planned and an individual in the bar offered to take the car home.
“She herself was never a suspect,” Mr Cleary said, “while she attempted to admit the offence of driving herself, the gardai had observed a male driving.”
Mr Cleary said Ms O’Donnell recalled the conversation with gardai as harmonious, which suggests she was highly inebriated. The court heart that Ms O’Donnell is now a 26-year-old single parent who works part-time in catering.
Mr Cleary said Ms O’Donnell returned to collect her car the following day and still did not remember who was driving.
Judge Paul Kelly fined Ms O’Donnell €150 for failure to give information under the Road Traffic Act.
