A man who fell asleep in a taxi and could not be woken has been fined €150 for being drunk in a public place.
Gardai told Letterkenny District Court today that they were flagged down by a tax-driver on January 7th last.
The driver had taken a fare but could not waken the man who was drunk in the back of his car at Port Road.
Mark McCauley, of Drumoghill, Manorcunningham, was arrested and failed to pay a fixed penalty notice.
Solicitor Kieran Dillon told the court that he had tried to do the right thing by getting a taxi home but fel asleep.
The 32 year old father-of-two was fined €150 by Judge Paul Kelly.
