Ollie Horgan was left frustrated after Finn Harps’ crucial relegation clash with Drogheda United was postponed tonight.
A waterlogged pitch at Finn Park left referee Paul McLaughlin with little option but to call it off just over an hour before the 8pm kick-off time.
Heavy rainfall had the Ballybofey venue soaking – and the cancellation took Harps’ fight for survival firmly out of their own hands.
The game had been a must-win tie for relegation-threatened Harps, who could at least have thrown the gauntlet down to their rivals with a win.
“The disappointing this is that we still had something to play for here,” Horgan said.
“It could be gone by the time we play.
”It’s difficult. To be fair to the officials, they have sided on the safety of the players, which we can’t argue with. It’s very disappointing for us.
“We just have to dust ourselves down and go again at Drogheda in a couple of days’ time.”
The postponement also has financial implications for the club.
Horgan added: “It’s our last home gate and we’d be hoping for a crowd to come out, but that’s been taken away from us.”
The game has been rescheduled for Monday evening at 8pm.
