A man flicked blood at Gardai and told them he had AIDS.
Mark Doherty was arrested after a public order matter at a relative’s home during a domestic disturbance.
Doherty, a father of two from Ard McCool, Stranorlar, Co Donegal, had cut his hand during the incident.
While in custody on August 14th, 2016, Doherty, aged 35, flicked a tissue and blood at a Garda which landed on his boot.
He then told Gardai that he had AIDS which was not the case.
Doherty’s solicitor, Mr Kieran Dillon, said his client apologised to Letterkenny District Court and that he was ashamed of his behaviour.
He added that the publicity from the case would be another punishment for him.
Judge Paul Kelly addressed Doherty and he put it to him that he now has a string of convictions which appear to be alcohol-related.
He said the courts had been lenient with him until now but that would not be the case if he came before the court again.
Judge Kelly fined Doherty €100 for spilling or pouring blood on another person.
“Get yourself sorted,” added the Judge.
