As one shop assistant in Kernan’s Centra in Newmills put it this morning “Sure we’ve had more wind in Donegal in July.”
After all the warnings ex-Hurricane Ophelia (officially downgraded to Storm Ophelia) came to Donegal and went with all the power of a hairdryer at a hen party weekend.
Yes, there were a few trees down and they may have closed the Harry Blaney Bridge (again!)
But really – a hurricane?
The reality was however, that we simply couldn’t ignore all the warnings.
On a serious note three families are grieving a lost loved one as a result of the storm but in Donegal it never really materialised.
Weather events in Donegal for some reason are all too frequent as the people of Inishowen can sadly testify to.
Not that the executives in RTE will worry too much about that.
Eileen Magnier may have done her best and she even reminded viewers across the country that Donegal people are used to bad weather.
Yes, up here it’s different – and that includes the weather.
