Gardaí are monitoring 192 convicted sex offenders across Ireland following their release.
The Sunday Independent reports that 126 sex offenders who were convicted of serious crimes must obey strict guidelines, and are banned from schools, sport clubs, and playgrounds.
Most of these sex offenders reside in north and north-east Dublin.
“Appropriate treatment” or psychological counselling may be ordered for convicted sex offenders.
They also must disclose their convictions to potential employers when applying for a job that includes working with children or vulnerable people. If they do not disclose this, they can face a €12,697 fine or a five-year prison sentence – or both.
Under Irish law, Gardaí cannot release the addresses of convicted sex offenders to parents who may be living in the area, unlike in the UK and USA.
